History and future

The National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame Golf Tournament is held during the Spring of each year (preferably in early June), hosted High Point Country Club – Willow Creek Golf Course facility in High Point, North Carolina.

The tournament is considered to be one of the top 3 senior amateur championships in the U.S.A., recognized by Golf Digest and draws top ranking senior amateur players each year.

The first tournament held was in 1984 to honor two outstanding amateur golfers of their time:

Dale Morey | Ranked #1 Senior Amateur In The World | Willow Creek Golf Course Member
Harry Welch |  Ranked #6 Senior Amateur In The World | Willow Creek Golf Course Member

Over the years, participants have considered  this a National Hall of Fame event and encouraged us to change the name to reflect this more encompassing title.  Editor of a Florida golf association newsletter had this to say in 1996:

“This event is the Grandaddy(sic) of all senior amateur golf events. It is actually The National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame.”

The tournament continues to improve and is now a significant event for the World Amateur Golf Ranking by offering maximum points for top finishers.

In 2025, the tournament committee segregated the National Senior Amateur tournament from the Hall of Fame event. This change authorizes the Hall of Fame being directed by own entity/committee for unbiased election decisions.
The committee revises year after year the best criteria and nomination process to induct the Hall of Fame recipient.
